AS4457 is bought from Standards Australia or SAI Global. It isn't a free document. AS4457:2019 is the current edition of the Australian standard for off-the-road wheel and tyre maintenance and safety. A TRA service code is the cross-manufacturer classification for an off-the-road tyre, written as E-3, E-4, L-5 and so on. The letter marks the machine family and the number marks tread depth and duty. The codes are published by the Tire and Rim Association in its annual Year Book, the authoritative cross-brand reference for OTR tyre standards. ETRTO publishes the European equivalent, worth checking when you're working with European OEM machines such as Volvo or Liebherr. Codes are reference that may be superseded, so confirm against the current Year Book or databook.

Each manufacturer publishes its own OTR databook with specifications, fitments, recommended pressures and application guidance. They sit behind PDF downloads and aren't cross-referenced against each other, which is why comparing brands takes work. Always confirm a figure against the manufacturer's current databook before acting on it.

Tyre Stewardship Australia runs the national scheme for responsible recycling and disposal of end-of-life tyres, and sets the levy and the standards for OTR tyre disposal pathways in Australia. AS4457 also covers end-of-life disposal, including retread eligibility and scrap pathways. We scrap tyres that don't meet the standard through compliant disposal channels rather than selling them on.
